I subscribe to the pistachio school of thought when it comes to languages…you can’t have just one. French is my strongest foreign language, thanks to a (roughly) ten-year stay in France, but being in Arizona has required me to keep my Spanish up to a respectable level as well.
I am a graduate student at Arizona State University, candidate for the MTESOL (Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages); a freelance French to English translator (soon adding Spanish credentials and service); mother of a ten-year-old daughter; jewelry artist, dancer and percussionist.
Other languages I have studied, or am studying, are Arabic, Persian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese (in no particular order). Courtesy of my brilliant daughter, I am also being exposed to intensive, daily practice in ‘Tweenspeak — perhaps the most challenging language of them all…
